Bosses Day – 16 October 2009

Originally started in America in the 1950’s by a daughter who honored her boss/ Father by registering Bosses’ Day and like most “Hallmark” holidays, the world now seems to have adopted Bosses Day as an annual event. We think she was quite sneaky as she registered Bosses Day on 16 October - which happened to fall on his Birthday so she only had to give him one gift!

Did you know? There are different types (sometimes referred to as species!) of bosses – in fact, the experts say there are 21 types, with names like: The Screamer Boss, The Fearmonger Boss, The Manipulator Boss, The Clueless Boss, The Old-Schooler, The Teflon Boss  (any blame slides right off them!), The Buddy Boss, The God Boss and The Lone Wolf Boss. These are just the funny ones, but when you actually read the article – some are quite true and very interesting. They can help you to understand what goes through your boss’ mind. There is a saying that "people join companies and leave bosses". You never get to choose your boss and studies show that 80% of people who resign from organisations do so because of their immediate manager.

We have found some advice on “How to Manage your Boss” with hot tips like: always keep your boss in the loop, remind them how valuable you are, learn all you can about your boss’ career and cultivate common personal interests. There is some very entertaining feedback after the article as well!

We, on a simpler level, we have divided bosses into 2 categories:

1.)   The Stretcher Boss - The boss that stretches you to your best. Whether it is in your actual work, knowledge and experience or other qualities you have now required, like: patience, tolerance, coolness, quietness, anger management, help you to find a better job etc. The types of qualities that stretch you to be a better person!

2.)   The Great Boss – The boss that understands, helps, guides, has an open door policy, communicates, leads by example, encourages, is fair, motivates, etc. The types of qualities that help you to be a better person! If you are looking for one of these bosses, click here.

Aaaaah ha! So we have it, all bosses are good - they all have your best interests at heart! In light of this, we would like to give you some ideas for Bosses Day: For Male Bosses, we have the Braai and Outdoor Hampers, Golf Hampers, Executive Hampers and Beer Glasses or what about a Gourmet or Alcohol Hamper? For the Females, a Pamper Hamper or a delicious Wine Hamper?

Bosses day falls on a Friday this year, which is really convenient to give both of your selves the afternoon off! Only kidding, what we are really trying to say is that you must order by 14h00 on Thursday, 15 October 2009 for deliveries in Johannesburg and Pretoria (and most Major Centres) and at least 3-4 working days before for outlying areas.
